Best Non-Toxic, TPHP-FREE Nail polishes and Gel polishes you need in your salon!

I've really struggled with finding an article clearly stating the healthier gel polish options out there. Most of them are about the more natural regular polishes (which is also important and I will include them here as well). But gel polish is a product that has become very popular because of its chip-free wear for 2 weeks. I use this on a daily basis for my job and toxic chemicals are something I have no desire to use so I'm here to make a change. I've been scouring the internet for any little bit of information, hopping from website to website for info and finally I have narrowed it down. I might make a list of polishes to avoid as well. But that's for another time.

Here are all the chemicals you should watch out for: Toulene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde resin, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), camphor, parabens, xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide, lead and Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP).

Along the way I have read that TPHP (Triphenyl Phosphate) is the most toxic chemical that is still overlooked in many many polishes even though they may claim to be "healthier" or "non-toxic" or "vegan". TPHP is a chemical that disrupts your hormones, metabolism, reproduction and development. They use this as a replacement for DBP. A study published in Environment International found that women who had recently painted their nails with TPHP containing polishes saw a sevenfold increase of a TPHP metabolite (what your body creates when it metabolizes TPHP) 10 - 14 hours after their nails were painted. I do not want to be serving TPHP or hormone imbalances to my clients... so on a quest I went to find the best, healthiest polishes(that still work well) out there. Here they are:

1. Zoya - Regular Polish

This brand has been by far the healthiest I have found. Each polish is now 10-free which is every chemical I listed earlier. There is also the Naked Manicure line that actually adds nutrients to your nail as well as being chemical free! Can't get much better than that. There's just no gel polish option from this brand yet but I will be hoping for it!

2. ncLA - Regular AND Gel Polish

This brand's regular AND gel polish is 7-free INCLUDING TPHP. This is huge. They also claim to have a 21+ day wear. I haven't personally tried it but I am considering getting this in my salon for these reasons alone.

3. CND - Vinylux and Shellac

I actually have real experience with this brand (CND certified). They are 7-free with no advertisement of being free of TPHP but I checked the ingredients and it is not included. They are made to be gentle on the natural nail so the removal process of the gel is a dream. This brand is also hypoallergenic. I really like using this brand but their color selection can be sometimes lacking. (sometimes I use their base and top coat with OPI colors. shh! don't tell!)

4. Dazzle Dry - Fast-Dry Regular Polish

One of my clients told me about this brand one day as I was removing it from her toes. It was still noticeably shiny after a month or so of wear which I thought was reason enough to check it out! I was so excited by what I found. It is 8+ free including TPHP! vegan/cruelty free and get this.... dries completely in 5 minutes!!! This is another brand I would seriously consider for my salon as well.

OTHER HONERABLE MENTIONS:

Bio Seaweed Gel - Regular AND gel

I have some experience with this brand as well. There's no seaweed in these products which was somewhat disappointing and borderline false advertising. I wasn't really expecting there to be but It's not as natural as it seems. It does last a consistently longer amount of time other brands on natural nails. When you order the gel the regular match comes with it which is also nice. These products are 5-free(formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, BHA, & solvents(?)). There's no ingredients list online for me to verify but it looks like it could still contain formaldehyde resin, TPHP, and many others I listed at the beginning. Still a little better than most others out there but not my first choice.
